Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT)
Non-invasive treatment for persistent muscle, tendon and soft-tissue pain
Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT) uses controlled mechanical sound waves delivered through the skin to stimulate activity in the treated tissue, influence pain signalling and support the body's natural healing response. It may be recommended for certain persistent musculoskeletal conditions that have not responded adequately to conventional treatment.
Mr. Rohit Madhav performs radial shock wave therapy as a regenerative medicine tool to treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendon injuries. He uses the DolorClast® Radial Shock Waves system which delivers radial shock waves through a handheld applicator placed against the skin. What Conditions Can RSWT Treat?
Depending on your diagnosis, RSWT may be considered for:
- Plantar fasciopathy and persistent heel pain
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Tennis and golfer's elbow
- Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
- Patellar tendinopathy
- Calcific shoulder tendinopathy
- Myofascial trigger points
- Selected muscle and myotendinous injuries
Is Shock Wave Therapy Right for Me?
RSWT may be considered when persistent musculoskeletal pain has not improved sufficiently with treatments such as physiotherapy, exercise, activity modification, orthotics or medication. It is not effective for every condition or every patient, so an individual assessment is important.

Is RSWT Safe?
Radial Shock Wave Therapy is non-invasive, but it is not appropriate for everyone. Tell your clinician if you have a bleeding or clotting disorder, take blood-thinning medication, are pregnant, have an active infection or cancer, recently received a steroid injection in the treatment area, or have certain acute injuries or implanted medical devices.

How Does Radial Shock Wave Therapy Work?
During treatment, a coupling gel is applied to the skin and a handheld applicator delivers controlled radial shock waves to the affected area. The treatment is thought to:
Stimulate local tissue activity: Mechanical energy may encourage changes in tissue activity and circulation.
Influence pain signalling: Shock waves may affect nerve sensitivity and pain pathways, potentially helping to reduce persistent pain.
Support tissue recovery: The goal is to encourage the body's natural healing processes as part of a broader rehabilitation plan.
What Can I Expect?
We will first assess the affected area and determine an appropriate treatment protocol. During treatment, you may feel tapping, pressure or some discomfort. Treatment intensity can be adjusted according to your tolerance.
A course may involve three treatments approximately one week apart, although the number and frequency of sessions will depend on your individual condition.
After treatment, temporary soreness, redness, swelling, bruising or increased pain may occur. These effects typically resolve within a few days. You may be advised to avoid strenuous or high-impact activity involving the treated area for approximately 48 hours.
